Overview
Acts 2 chronicles the significant events and sermons that shaped the early Christian Church:
The Coming of the Holy Spirit (verses 1-13): The apostles and other followers of Jesus are gathered in one place, and suddenly, the Holy Spirit descends upon them like a rushing wind. Tongues of fire appear, enabling them to speak in various languages. This miraculous event draws a diverse crowd, leading some to marvel and others to mock.
Peter's Sermon (verses 14-36): Peter, empowered by the Holy Spirit, delivers a powerful sermon explaining the prophecy of Joel and connecting it to Jesus Christ. He boldly proclaims Jesus as the Messiah and calls the people to repentance, declaring His death and resurrection.
The Response to Peter's Sermon (verses 37-41): Peter's words pierce the hearts of the listeners, leading them to ask what they must do. Peter calls for repentance, baptism, and faith in Jesus. About 3,000 souls are baptized and added to the Church that day.
Life in the Early Church (verses 42-47): The new believers commit themselves to the apostles' teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer. They share possessions, care for one another, and grow in unity and favor. Daily, the Lord adds to the Church those being saved.
