Overview
This final, brief chapter summarizes King Ahasuerus’s powerful reign and the tribute he imposed on the land and islands of the sea. The focus then shifts to Mordecai, who is second in rank to the king. Mordecai is described as being great among the Jews, well-received by the multitude of his brethren. He seeks the welfare of his people and speaks peace to all his descendants. The chronicler notes that the full account of the king’s and Mordecai’s acts are recorded in the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia. This chapter, while short, serves to underscore the reversal of fortunes for Mordecai and the Jewish people, and it highlights the theme of recognition and honor for those who faithfully serve their community and God. The book concludes on a note of triumph and respect, marking the resilience and restoration of the Jewish people in the Persian Empire.
