Overview
In John 3, we find one of the most well-known and oft-quoted passages in the entire Bible. The chapter opens with a conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus, a Pharisee and ruler of the Jews. Nicodemus comes to Jesus by night, seeking understanding. Jesus teaches him about the necessity of being born again by the Spirit, a concept that both challenges and puzzles Nicodemus. The latter part of the chapter includes the famous verse, John 3:16, where Jesus reveals the depth of God's love for the world. Additionally, John the Baptist provides testimony about Jesus, emphasizing His divine origin and mission. Together, these elements in John 3 underscore the transformative power of faith in Jesus and the availability of eternal life to all who believe.
