Overview
Psalm 112 serves as a counterpart to Psalm 111, using the same acrostic form to outline the rewards and characteristics of those who fear God. The psalm begins with a declaration that those who fear the Lord and find joy in His commands will be blessed. It proceeds to describe a life marked by righteousness, graciousness, and compassion, illustrating how such virtues lead to prosperity, influence, and enduring legacy. Notably, the text delves into the inner stability and courage of the God-fearing individuals, claiming they will "have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord." The psalm contrasts this with the fate of the wicked, indicating that their desires will ultimately come to nothing. Ultimately, Psalm 112 serves as a powerful teaching tool, illuminating the kind of life that results from a deep reverence for God and adherence to His ways.
Psalm 112
1 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
5 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
