Psalm 126

Overview

Psalm 126 is a song of ascents that captures a moment of miraculous deliverance and restoration by the Lord. Recalling a time when the mouths of the people were filled with laughter and their tongues with joyful singing, the Psalmist expresses profound gratitude. The imagery of sowing in tears and reaping with shouts of joy paints a vivid picture of God's redemptive grace. This Psalm is not only a celebration of a past miracle but also a plea for continued blessings and a restoration of fortunes, affirming the steadfast belief in God's ability to transform sorrow into joy and desolation into abundance.

Psalm 126

1 (A Song of degrees.) When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.

2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.

3 The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.

4 Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south.

🔑 Devotion

5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
