Songs in the Night: Seeking God in Our Darkest Hours
Job 35:10 Â But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;
Elihu came to a conclusion much the same as what Paul the Apostle did in Romans 3:11! Â Amazing, isnât it? Â By default of the old Adamic nature in us, we are very slow to seek after God in our dilemmas, IF we seek Him at all! Â Why is it that so many times we seek Him as a last-ditch effort to avoid total disaster, when in fact He should be the FIRST one that we seek? Â The Psalmist David said, âEarly will I seek thee!â (see Ps 63:1). Â If anyone in the Bible knew of the âsongs in the nightâ, it would have been David!
To think that we, in our darkest hour, would choose to seek help from everywhere but God our maker is sad, especially when we consider that He is the only one who can give us that song in the night! Â Yet, if weâre not careful, we will be guilty of doing just that.
If we only knew how much sweeter our valley experiences would be if we turned to the Savior early in our problems, we wouldnât hesitate one moment to come before His presence! Â Perhaps we can be taught a lesson by the Holy Script today, to remember always that He âgiveth songs in the nightâ!
Oh weary soul, how long has it been since youâve hung your harp on the willow tree, asking yourself âHow shall we sing the Lordâs song in a strange land?â Â I ask you this question, âHow can you NOT?â Take your harp back down at once and come boldly before the throne of Grace, that He may fill your heart with songs of praise and victory even in the midnight hour!
You have this promise in Pro 8:17, âI love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.â Â Seek Him early and He SHALL put victoryâs song back in your heart, that will make even the gates of hell to shake and tremble!
Psa 63:1 Â O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; Â
