Overview
This chapter introduces the first of the “Servant Songs,” depicting a servant chosen by God to bring justice to the nations gently. The servant will not falter or be discouraged until he establishes justice on earth. This figure is presented as a covenant for the people and a light to the Gentiles, highlighting a universal mission. God, who created the heavens and stretched out the earth, promises to help the servant. The chapter shifts to a song of praise to the Lord for His glorious victory, yet also laments over people's blindness and deafness to God’s message. God’s law will go out to the nations, not just to Israel. The chapter concludes with a warning of the consequences of idolatry and disobedience. This prophecy encompasses both the immediate context of Israel’s deliverance and the future coming of the Messiah.
