Overview
Matthew Chapter 3 introduces John the Baptist, who calls people to repentance and prepares the way for the Messiah, baptizing in the Jordan River. When Jesus comes to be baptized, John feels unworthy but complies. As Jesus is baptized, the heavens open, the Spirit of God descends like a dove, and a voice from heaven declares, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." This chapter marks the beginning of Jesus' public ministry and God's affirmation of His Son.
