Overview
Matthew Chapter 4 narrates Jesus being led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where He fasts for 40 days and faces temptation from Satan. Jesus resists each temptation, quoting Scripture, such as "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." After the temptation, Jesus begins His public ministry in Galilee, calling His first disciples, Peter, Andrew, James, and John. The chapter concludes with Jesus traveling throughout the region, teaching, preaching, and healing all manner of sickness, demonstrating His authority and compassion, and fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy as "the people which sat in darkness saw great light."
